Trump Welcomes Families of National Guard Members Killed in Action to the White House

President Trump Invites Family of Fallen National Guard Member to White House
On Sunday, President Donald Trump announced that he invited the family of Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, who was fatally shot last week, to the White House. Trump shared that he spoke with her parents, who were understandably “devastated” by the tragic news.
Twenty-year-old Specialist Beckstrom was killed in a shooting incident on Wednesday in Washington, D.C. Another service member, Air Force Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains in critical condition in the hospital. Vigils have been held across West Virginia in memory of both service members.
“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump told reporters. He also expressed hopes for Wolfe’s recovery, emphasizing his commitment to honoring both individuals.
Mourning communities gathered over the weekend at Webster County High School in West Virginia to pay tribute to Beckstrom. Both she and Wolfe had been serving as part of Trump’s federal initiative aimed at supporting policing efforts in Washington, D.C.
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers hoped for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile, and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” stated Jarrod Hankins, principal of Beckstrom’s former high school. “She was sweet, caring, and always willing to help others.”
Details surrounding Beckstrom’s funeral are still being finalized. In a related development, authorities have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of first-degree murder, as well as two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed. This incident prompted the Trump administration to suspend asylum processing and temporarily halt visa issuance for Afghan passport holders.
Wolfe, originally from Martinsburg, West Virginia, joined the service in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High School. He continues to receive medical treatment and is “fighting for his life,” according to West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey, who provided updates on Fox News Channel’s “The Sunday Briefing.”
Additionally, Attorney General Pam Bondi expressed her intention to meet with Wolfe’s family to offer support during this challenging time.
Beckstrom, a graduate of Webster County High School in June 2023, enlisted shortly after and served as a military police officer with distinction. “She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had courage,” Morrisey remarked during the vigil. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
