Maduro Calls on Trump to End ‘Illegal Warmongering’ and Initiate ‘Serious Negotiations’ | Venezuela

Maduro Urges Trump to Pursue Dialogue Amid Growing Tensions
The Venezuelan leader, Nicolás Maduro, has called on Donald Trump to end his “illegal warmongering” and engage in “serious talks” concerning relations between their administrations. This appeal comes as speculation rises around an alleged CIA airstrike in Venezuela during the pre-Christmas period.
Speculations on U.S. Military Actions
During a recent hour-long televised interview, Maduro did not confirm claims related to the supposed U.S. military action—the first of its kind since Trump initiated a military pressure campaign in August. As he drove through the streets of Caracas, Maduro attempted to project confidence, stating, “This could be something we talk about in a few days.”
In what he termed a “pod car” broadcast, Maduro drove past his childhood home and significant landmarks in Caracas, highlighting the city’s beauty while urging U.S. voters to consider whether they want Trump leading them into a South American version of the Iraq War.
Rejection of U.S. Accusations
Maduro dismissed U.S. assertions that he heads a “narco-terrorist” organization responsible for drug trafficking into the United States. He suggested that Washington’s real aim is to control Venezuela’s valuable resources, including oil and rare-earth metals.
“Since they can’t accuse me of having weapons of mass destruction or nuclear capabilities… they have fabricated a claim they know is as false as the one that led them into a forever war,” said Maduro, emphasizing the need to prioritize dialogue over conflict.
Readiness for Negotiation
Maduro expressed Venezuela’s openness to negotiations, stating that if the U.S. genuinely wants to address drug trafficking, Venezuela stands ready for discussions. “If they want oil, Venezuela is ready for U.S. investment, like with Chevron, whenever they want it,” he declared.
The Impact of U.S. Pressure
The New York Times reported that to evade U.S. special forces, Maduro has resorted to frequently changing his residence and communication devices. However, he maintained a nonchalant demeanor regarding the impact of Trump’s campaign on his personal life. “I have a foolproof bunker: almighty God,” he stated, reinforcing his reliance on faith.
Recent U.S. Military Strikes
Maduro’s pre-recorded interview coincided with Trump’s announcement of a U.S. airstrike against a docking facility used by drug traffickers. If validated, this attack would signify a new chapter in a military campaign that has already involved extensive naval operations, airstrikes, and a total blockade of sanctioned oil tankers.
Trump has characterized these military actions as necessary to quell drug trafficking, asserting that the U.S. is in an “armed conflict” with drug cartels. The attacks have escalated recently, with a total of 35 known strikes resulting in at least 115 casualties, including Venezuelans.
Call for Dialogue and Diplomacy
Maduro revealed that his last discussion with Trump was a brief, cordial exchange on November 21, expressing the need for renewed dialogue and diplomacy between Washington and Caracas.
